Late afternoon shot on a cloudy day...used Better Beamer (at +1/3, I think) for the fill light. In some cases, flash isn't necessary for shots like this...but it's helpful to fill in shadow areas when I'm shooting on gloomy days at a fairly high ISO (800). Otherwise shadows show an objectionable amount of noise, and it gets worse if you try to lighten them in Photoshop.
The high ISO is necessary on gloomy days to make sure I've got a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the bird in flight.
