Black Skimmers Nesting - June 5th 2009

I was over at Indian Rocks Beach to day in of course Indian Rocks Beach Florida to browse through the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary. Quite a treat for bird lovers. As I made my way to the back I headed out through the back gate toward the beach and noticed a huge flock of Black Skimmers nesting. The area has been roped off for the nesting birds as you can see in the photographs.

All you nearby bird photographers and bird watchers might wish to head over and take a look. Keep in mind they are nesting so be careful not to disturb them in any way.

Black Skimmers have one brood a year and lay 3-5 eggs at a time. They nest in large colonies and are often associated with Terns.
